After over a year being away from the microphone, Bianca and Bronwyn have a long overdue catch up. Whilst Bianca speaks from Europe, Bronwyn tunes in from South Africa. As young South African dancers, we are constantly fed the idea that, by travelling overseas and dancing in a European or American company, we will reach the epitome of success for our careers. Oh! And don’t forget that we “can’t dance past 35 so you have to get your career in NOW”.

In part one of this episode, we challenge this societal notion by exploring how the dance industry differs between the continents, how much potential South Africa’s creative flare holds, and why we should appreciate what South Africa has to offer. We discuss how these worlds collide, freelancing vs. full-time company life, the role that time - or the lack thereof - can play in our careers and how washing the dishes can be a form of meditation.

In part two of this episode, we extend our conversation to the more philosophical and emotional sphere. We delve into the importance of following one’s intuition and the consequential ripple effects it can have on one’s life. We open up about how each of us have developed in the past year by discussing the relationships with our egos, non-violent communication and the importance of being fully present.
